SS-I: COMPUTATIONAL SOCIAL SCIENCE AS THE ULTIMATE WEB INTELLIGENCE

Follow-up Special Issue: World Wide Web Journal (WWWJ), Springer

Computational Social Science (CSS) is the use of Web Intelligence and the tools and technology capable of monitoring, analysing, diagnosing, and resolving day-to-day problems of society. Pointed out by Professor Raj Reddy, the 1994 ACM Turing Award recipient, “Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence must embrace CSS [Computational Social Science] as the next frontier in Web intelligence.” His vision on Artificial Intelligence and Web Intelligence for creating a truly humane society is both thought-provoking and instrumental to bringing about new revolutions in the two related fields.
The special session (and the follow-up special issue) is an effort and a step taken forward to explore the theories and methodologies from both disciplines of Artificial Intelligence and Web Intelligence with a focus on Computational Social Science, as a direct response to Professor Raj Reddy's inspiring vision on CCS and WI.

SS-II: KNOWLEDGE DISCOVERY AND MANAGEMENT ON ONLINE SOCIAL NETWORKS AND MEDIA

Follow-up Special Issue: Web Intelligence, An International Journal

With the recent development on the Internet, the social Web, and other large-scale, socio-technological infrastructures, online Social Networks and Media have been adopted by billions of users to interact and socialise and have become key platforms for content and opinion dissemination, social and professional networking, recommendations, scouting, alerting, and political campaigns. Such platforms have introduced many interesting problems to the research community, resulted in significant theoretical and methodological advancements in social network analysis and mining.
Targeting on the challenging issues in knowledge discovery and management on online social networks and media, the special session (and the follow-up special issue) will focus on concepts and algorithms suitable for investigating massive data of online social networks and media adopting theories and methodologies from different disciplines such as data mining, information retrieval, machine learning, user behaviour modelling, and economic, social and cultural computing.

SS-III: DATA-DRIVEN INTELLIGENT HEALTHCARE AND MEDICINE

Follow-up Special Issue: IEEE Intelligent Informatics Bulletin

AI is on the way to change the healthcare´s face. Over the last few years, a escalate sector of companies developing AI tools in healthcare has emerged, bringing the potential to diagnose illnesses faster and save lives. Also, novel approaches in Healthcare and Medicine have emerged an both Personalized Precision medicine (PPM) and Personalize Healthcare (PH) hold the lead. Currently, PPM and PH required simultaneously accomplished the following four conditions, to be: predictive, preventive, personalize and participatory. PPM is an emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that include individual variability in genes, environment and lifestyle for each person. Furthermore, gives tools to clinicians to better understand the complex mechanism underlying a patient´s health, disease or condition and to better predict which treatment will be most effective. Moreover, present ongoing challenges from regulation, reimbursement, clinical adoption to the economic value of the data. PPM has the ability to link large scale genomics, other omics, biomedical imaging, data with large scale electronic patient health care records, e-record and big data.

PH historically has been used in the pharmaceutical industry focus on treatment and the association between molecular markers, companion or complementary diagnostics and targeted therapies. Big data analytics are supposed to be the cure-all for the healthcare industry, closing the gap between what is expected of clinicians and how well they can actually perform. Despite the proliferation of digital documentation, predictive analytics and risk scoring technologies, healthcare organizations are still struggling with the basics of health information exchange and EHR interoperability.

The demand of Data Science (Ds) in industry, academia, and government is rapidly growing. We already mentioned above how transform PPM and PH. Ds involved principles, process and techniques for understanding the phenomena via (automated) the analysis of data and its goal is to improve the decision making. Data driven decision making (DDD) refers to the practice of basing decision on the analysis of data and is the focal point for PPM and PH in the present. The adoption of big data analytics, PPM and digital health innovations will change healthcare delivery and increase quality care.

The proposed Special Session objectives are:

  • ● To discuss on challenging issues on Ds, PPM and PH, seeking the related breakthrough for new revolutions in related fields. Also, explore an innovative route to smartly merge technologies in related fields and make online big data more productive and intelligent to the institutes related with health;

  • ● To discuss on potential research projects on the areas of Ds, PPM and PH and explore possible future research and development directions in technologies, methodology, and applications;

  • ● To provide a forum for researchers from different countries, various research and application domains to discuss their recent work on the topics related to Ds, PPM and PH and facilitate the collaboration research.

As contributions to intelligent informatics community we can mentioned: a) strengthen the research among the community; b) Incorporate Machine Learning, Big Data and computational Science areas in PPM; c) topics related to Ds and PPM will be explored in the proposed Special Issue attracting researchers and bring up more contributions to Data Science in future.
